'Wasatiyyah' Concept Needs To Prevail To Build Progressive Nation - Najib

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- The concept of "wasatiyyah" or moderation as taught by Prophet Muhammad should prevail to ensure the mission of building a progressive and competitive nation was achieved, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

In his message in conjunction with Prophet Muhammad's birthday celebration tomorrow, Najib said the Prophet was a role model who practised moderation in his life and the concept had brought about unity and solidarity of Muslims throughout the world.

"Moderation as practised by the Prophet has resulted in creating the momentum to drive the development of each race and country in the world.

"Therefore, this momentum needs to continue to ensure our mission to build a progressive and competitive country is achieved," he said in his personal blog, 1malaysia.com.my Wednesday.

The prime minister said Malaysia's ability to strengthen relations between the West and Islamic world was highlighted by former Asean secretary-general Dr Surin Pitsuwan as a successful model of the moderate approach, as practised by the Malaysian government in handling various issues and conflicts in the region.

He said the practice of moderation in Malaysia had become the best example to Islamic countries in resolving regional issues, including Malaysia's success as mediator in the southern Philippine conflict, which proved that it was not only respected among Islamic countries but also among western countries.

"I have just made a humanitarian visit to Palestine to show our full support for the struggle of the Palestinians in facing the Zionist regime in Gaza and offered to help as a middle person to bring peace between Hamas and Fatah.

"The fact is that the world recognises Malaysia as an important voice for peace. Therefore, we need to maintain ourselves as a credible and respectd government at the international level," he said.

In ending his message, Najib called on Muslims in Malaysia to spread peace and blessings to the Prophet as a sign of love and affection for him.

"The Prophet was indeed the greatest man, thus we should also strive to become great Muslims.

"I pray the celebration this time will move us in our struggle to attain goodness in this world and hereafter as enjoined by the Prophet," he said.

Campaign For All Malaysians To Embrace Visit Malaysia Year

VIENTIANE, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- Tourism Malaysia will soon launch a campaign for all Malaysians to embrace Visit Malaysia Year 2014 (VMY2014) in line with the aspiration of turning the event into a national mission.

Tourism Malaysia director-general Datuk Mirza Mohammad Taiyab said Wednesday people from all walks of life must feel that they were the hosts for the VMY campaign and prepare for the presence of the nation's guests next year.

"Nationalising and taking ownership of the programme by the people is important as they are the hosts of the nation's guests," he told Bernama on the sidelines of the Asean Tourism Forum, here.

He said the people's role included efforts in beautifying the country and facilitating tourist arrivals.

He also said that all ministries and government agencies could play their part in creating awareness about the campaign by printing the VMY2014 logo on their letterheads.

"If we can mobilise this small effort, it can make a difference," he said.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, when launching the VMY2014 campaign in Kuala Lumpur last Saturday, said he wanted the campaign to be turned into a national mission involving all parties in order to achieve the target of 28 million tourist arrivals next year.

A total of 24.7 million tourist arrivals was recorded in 2011 while the figure for last year is being tabulated.

Mirza said the 28 million tourist arrivals target was achievable if every Malaysian brought in one tourist as Malaysia had a population of 28 million people.

More tourists will mean more revenue for the country as tourism has become the third largest foreign exchange earner for the country after manufacturing and oil palm.

The tourism industry recorded a revenue of RM58.3 billion in 2011.

Mirza said every year was actually a VMY but next year was chosen specifically to set a new target of tourist arrivals as well as in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the birth of Malaysia following the integration of peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.

"We also want to stir domestic tourism as the creation of the Asean Community by 2015 will further facilitate the movement of people in the region," he said.

Tourism Malaysia, he said, would intensify promotional efforts for VMY2014 at all levels and renew training for the frontliners such as immigration, taxi drivers and shopkeepers.

Local governments too must ensure the cleanliness of their areas and the safety aspect of tourists must be ensured, for example, by checking the passenger boat licence and operating requirements, he added.

Mirza said lessons that could be learnt from the past VMY in 1990, 1994 and 2007 were that involvement of all Malaysians was important in sharing the efforts to beautify the country and facilitate the presence of the tourists.

Others lesson included enhancing promotion and publicity as well as all relevant departments coming together in enforcing the safety of tourists and the role of the media in promoting the VMY campaign.

Malaysia has been voted as the 9th Most Visited Country in the World by The United Nations World Tourism Organisation in 2012 and as the 4th Best Shopping City in the World by CNN Travel in 2012 after New York, London and Tokyo.

Last year, Forbes Online chose Malaysia as the 10th Friendliest Country in the World while DinarStandard voted it as one of the Top Tourist Destinations for Muslim Tourists.

Eygpt Interested To Cooperate With Petronas To Discover New Oil Fields In Africa

Cairo, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Wednesday that Eygpt Petroleum Company was keen to collaborate with Petronas to discover oil and gas fields in Africa.

He said the interest was expressed by Egyptian Prime Minister Dr Hesham Mohamed Qandil during a meeting between both leaders here today.

Najib said the proposal would be forwarded to Petronas for further action.

The Prime Minister was speaking to reporters on the last day of his three-day visit to Eygpt before departing for Davos, Switzerland, to attend the World Economic Forum.

"Petronas is held in high esteem here as a very successful company which should be emulated," he said, adding that there was abundant opportunities for the national oil corporation to explore oil and gas onshore or offshore Egypt.

"They (Egypt) are also interested to get Proton to collaborate with a local government-linked company to assembly cars here.

"Two economic zones were mentioned around the Suez Canal where Malaysian companies could come in and invest," he added.

Najib said the time was opportune for Malaysian companies to explore business and investment opportunities in Egypt as the government was currently restructuring its economy.

The Prime Minister said the balance of trade between Malaysia and Egypt was in Malaysia's favour.

Exports to Egypt amounted to US$1 billion (RM3.1 billion) between January and November last year while imports to Malaysia during that period totalled US$176.1 million (RM544.1 million).

He said one way to correct the imbalance was for Malaysia to import cotton from Egypt which has been described as one of the best in the world.

Meanwhile, Malaysia and Egypt signed a Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement with the main objective of having a framework for increasing two-way cooperation in economic and technical sectors and, to step up investments in each other's country.

The agreement was inked by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Amman, who signed on behalf of Malaysia, and Egyptian Minister of Manufacture and Commercial Hate Sale, witnessed by Najib and Hesham.

The agreement also covers trade and investment, construction, manufacturing, financial services, education, small-and-medium enterprises, hall industry, wholesale and retail, transport, information technology and communications, broadcasting and multimedia, agriculture and agro-food, manpower, mineral resources, customs facilitation initiatives and trade barriers.

Najib also thanked the Egyptian government, under the leadership of President Mohamed Morsi, for the assistance rendered to facilitate his successful trip to Gaza on Tuesday.

Najib To Raise Malaysia's Profile As Preferred Multi-Faceted Destination At WEF

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will use this year's annual World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, to build a strong case for Malaysia as a preferred investment, trade, education and tourism destination in Asia.

Najib, who is also Finance Minister, would market Malaysia's branding based on the success of the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) since its launch in October 2010 at the forum, where the world's political and economic elite would gather.

Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, said with the congregation of over 2,500 of the world's most powerful and influential investors, business leaders and policymakers, the WEF was the best platform as it has a wider global audience.

"In light of the growing competitive environment, Malaysia needs to raise its profile by highlighting the success of the ETP and the country's business-friendly environment," he told a press conference here today.

He said despite the prime minister's busy domestic schedule, more so with the impending general election widely expected to be called in March this year, "work must go on to woo investments, grow the economy and generate jobs."

Najib would leave on Wednesday leading the Malaysian delegation to the WEF from Jan 23-26.

The WEF is one of the most important and high-profile annual business gatherings in the world.

The theme for this year's forum is "Resilient Dynamism" and global leaders will be discussing how, in an increasingly inter-connected world, nations and businesses could build risk resilience and adapt to meet new social and economic demands.

As the leader of a nation that has been bucking global trends as well as undergoing a bold transformation programme, Najib would take the opportunity to engage with other world leaders and help shape the global agenda in 2013.

Mustapa said the prime minister's programme would include meetings with Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Pascal Lamy, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation.

He would also take part in a televised session on "The Economic Malaise and Its Perils".

Here, Najib would talk about global economic issues along with panellists including Ali Babacan, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic and Financial Affairs of Turkey and Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, President of Iceland.

There would also be a session on "Asean: Resilience in Diversity" where he would be joined by Asean politicians, including Philippines President Benigno Simeon Aquino III.

Najib would also be in the spotlight during a one-on-one conversation with renowned CNN journalist Fareed Zakaria where he would touch on Malaysia's economic transformation as well as global issues.

Mustapa said Najib would also be meeting with international media and thought leaders as well as chief executive officers (CEOs) of prominent global corporations.

Besides Mustapa, Najib would be accompanied by several other Cabinet members and CEO of the Performance Management and Delivery Unit Datuk Seri Idris Jala.

Others in the delegation include prominent Malaysian businessmen as well as heads of agencies.

Najib will also host the Malaysian Night, a soiree that aims to gather government leaders and corporate captains to showcase the best of Malaysian culture, business, economic potential, food and in general, the country and its people.

Top corporations attending the WEF include Sapura, Peremba, Khazanah Nasional, YTL Group, Felda and AirAsia.

Visit Malaysia Year 2014 Being Promoted At ATF

VIENTIANE, Jan 21 (Bernama) -- Fresh from the launching of Visit Malaysia Year 2014 in Kuala Lumpur two days ago, the Malaysian Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen took the opportunity to promote the campaign at the Asean Tourism Forum (ATF), here.

She told the Asean Tourism Ministers' Meeting about the campaign which coincide with Malaysia hosting next year's ATF in Kuching in January.

"It will be a very good exposure for Malaysia as all tourism ministers from Asean, China, Korea, Japan and India will be attending ATF in Malaysia next year," she told Bernama after attending the Asean Tourism Ministers' Meeting, here.

She said travel agents, tour operators and media from all over the world would also be attending the ATF in Malaysia next year.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak launched the VMY2014 at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

Najib had wanted the VMY2014 be turned into a national mission involving all parties in order to achieve the target of receiving 28 million tourists next year.

The premier had said Malaysia needed not only physical infrastructure but also soft infrastructure as well, which is, Malaysian who are always cheerful, courteous and helpful so that visitors experience a truly memorable time in Malaysia.

Dr Ng said she had also invited tourism ministers from Asean as well as from China, Japan, South Korea and India to participate in the international travel exchange meeting to be held in Malaysia next April.

Chumpol died of heart failure at Ramathibodi Hospital in Bangkok at 9.39am Monday.

LIES, PLAYING UP RACIAL AND RELIGIOUS SENTIMENTS ARE JUST NATURAL FOR GUAN ENG

So the Penang To’kong Lim Guan Eng lied…not the first time but still a lie is a lie and this time it is serious, very serious and indeed serious.

He is trying to pass out a true Chinese as a Malay, manipulated the party election result to accommodate this Chinese as a Malay aimed at eye-washing the non-Malay party members and Malaysians in general.

Guan Eng lied about the party election result, then lied about Zairil Khir Johari and he will continue to lie to cover Zairil’s true identity and the coming lies to cover the recent lies are expected to be more believable.
Sure it has to be or else he cannot cover the lies he had created to convince and dupe party members who are calling for re-election but turned down by the party central committee or was it by Guan Eng himself.

Lying is a normal thing to Guan Eng and he seems so natural when he lies as proven time and again when accusations were made against him about his girlfriend rainbow and several other issues that include Zairil.

Guan Eng is no small child and no virgin politician…his moves are all calculated and despite ‘looking like a nerd’, he is no pushover.

Like when he suggested the use of word ‘ALLAH’ for all, he has actually created a deep religious divide between Muslims and Christians in the country which effect is long term and seriously undermine the good relationship Malaysians have all this while.

His suggestion could be viewed as a diversion to the call for re-election in the party but the reality is he is desperately wooing the Christian votes which could help the party stay afloat if Pakatan Rakyat alliance breaks up before the general election.

At present the three parties in Pakatan are bogged down with internal problems as well as ‘clashes of philosophies’ which see them distrusting each other and splitting hairs on many issues.

DAP and Guan Eng himself are facing credibility problem as Malays and Indians in the party doubt his sincerity and acknowledge his chauvinistic character that will not see any other race in the leadership line-up in future.

PKR is losing so much Malay support as the party leaders, particularly Anwar Ibrahim tries hard to put damage control as his ‘stooges’ that included Azrul Azwar of Bank Islam being exposed one-by-one.

For PAS, the party is now taking a hard stand on its fundamentalism philosophy, including the use of the word ‘ALLAH’ which antagonize DAP and PKR.

Given such scenario, Guan Eng is prepared to lie more and play more on racial and religious issues to make sure the party can go on its own if the Pakatan alliance turns sour in the immediate future.

After all, Guan Eng, just like Anwar, has no qualms or guilty feelings as lies to them are just in their blood.

Harun Din Akan Pertahankan Kalimah Allah Sehingga PRU Sahaja?

Seminar Nusantara (18-20 Jan. 2013): Rohingya Issue To Lead Islamic Thinking

“Seminar Nusantara – Islam di Asia Tenggara, Harapan dan Cabaran” (Islam In Southeast Asia, Hope And Challenges) which was held for three days, came to a close yesterday. The seminar which was organized by Generasi Bestari, MyKmu and Felda is the continuity from government's effort towards opening the minds of Muslims in Malaysia as well as Muslims around the world, in facing pressure and 'attacks' from various sides, including from Muslims themselves.

Previously, Ulama around the country met together during the Fiqh Mentaati Pemimpin seminar, and later, Ulama from West Asia were invited for the same reason. All of the seminars managed to convey important messages for Muslims.

A mutual agreement can be seen from all presenters during the Nusantara seminar where they afree on the fact that being loyal to leaders, and being united could lead towards stronger ummah. Lack of knowledge would be the main reason why ummah begin to break which would then lead to the fall of Islam.

Educated Muslims would understand that implementing Islamic laws would not guarantee ummah's strength, even putting it as the main focus would be the reason towards negative impact. In short, Muslims should not focus more on Fardu Ain, putting aside Fardu Kifayah. Instead, both those criteria should work together in balance.

A presenter on a paper entitled “Islam in Indochina: Muslims' Hope And Challenges in Myanmar", Mohd Mohiyuddin b Mohd Sulaiman, an Islamic researcher in Myanmar, UiTM, suggested that the Jews' role in destroying Islam and Muslim is not just mere imagination or illogical paranoia, proving that the message given by Allah which is conveyed through the Quran is true.

To understand the situation of ethnic cleansing in Rohingya, Hj. Mohiyuddin suggested that we should look back at the relationship between the Jews and the country. Rohingya Muslims do not have anywhere to go as their citizenship has been denied by the government of the country. The ethnic received heavy pressure from Buddhist monks who do not like their presence. The conflict began with a false claim made against the ethnic from Buddhists saying that three Rohingya men had raped a Buddhist woman. Even though medical report denied the claim and pictures showed that one of the suspects had tattoo, another evidence that he is not a Muslim, the story still spread around through alternative media and social networks that things are no longer in control.

From there, mosques and Muslim homes were burnt to the ground and further actions led to the ethnic cleansing.

The same modus operandi, religious extremists (in this context, the Buddhist), fight due to religion, and the role of the internet in spreading stories, reminds us to the standart modus opperandi for a 'regime change' which is led by the Jews.

Many are not aware on the close relationship between Myanmar and Jews which began since the country gain its Independence back in 1948.

Until now, Myanmar and Israel has witnessed around 20 Ambassadors as representatives to both countries. U Nu was Myanmar's first Prime Minister who made an official visit to David Ben Gurion, Israel's first Prime Minister in 1955 and David came to Myanmar in 1961 and the visit was described as 'the longest official visit in a foreign country' (two weeks) where he studied Buddhism). Few other Israel representatives who visited Myanmar include President Yitzhak Ben-Zvi, Foreign Minister, Moshe Sharett, Golda Meir, Abba Eban, Moshe Dayan and Shimon Peres.

Social development in Myanmar was built based on Israel's model such as health, farming etc. Thousands of students from Myanmar received their state training and scholarship to further their studies in Israel.

Despite that, the close ties between the two countries, which exceeds diplomatic ties, are kept underground, with both sides denying their relationship.

However, few intelligence which was gained and exposed by a few sides showed how both the countries often help one another in terms of military trainings. In 1954, Myanmar visited Israel for a military training and to study defence structure, The visit a year after that, showed Prime Minister U Nu 'bringing back' the idea to build four villages, following Israel's kibbutz system. From there, Myanmar began to established a militia which operates under the same system which is used by Israel where it is complete with women soldiers, defence institute and trading organization which was managed by Tatmadaw as additional financial powerhouses  on the country's official defence fund.

As expected, linking the issue of Rohingya with Israel is something impossible. However, what was said by Dr. Aye Maung, a Parliament member and Chairman of Rakhine Nationalities Development Party in an interview with Venus News Journal on June 14, 2012, could give us a little picture in the crisis where, "“Rakhine should be built like how Israel was developed. This is what people of Rakhine want and they want to chase out Rohingya Muslims away from the area."

Things get sadder for Rohingya Muslims as Aung Suu Kyi, a person who is taken as a true human rights fighter, do not have any certain answer on their fate. When asked by a student from one of the universities in Thailand during her visit to Harvard Kennedy School a while back, Suu Kyi stuttered for a while before giving a general answer where both sides went against human rights and she refused to show any support to any sides. That is why, Suu Kyi's sincerity in this matter becomes a question, does she sees human rights as something selective?

Looking at the update, what was presented on the paperwork regarding Myanmar should wake Muslims from their slumber to prepare themselves from being victims of the Jews' strategy in taking over the world and to destroy Islam.

If we do want Islam to gain its strength, please stop thinking that it can only be achieved by sentencing one another. The only way to get stronger is by making sure that we always look out for knowledge so that we would not end up destroying one another.
