KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- The Indian community's
support for the opposition pact has declined, as the community continues to
receive tremendous benefits from the government under the leadership of Prime
Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri G.
Palanivel said the community is aware that only the Barisan Nasional (BN)
government and the prime minister were capable of shaping their future.
He said its support was stronger for the ruling coalition after
receiving great benefits, particularly in education, public service development
programmes, economy and social programmes initiated by Najib.
"The Indian community is well-read and better informed
over the government's sincerity in helping the community. The lack of Indian
participation in Saturday's rally is a direct translation of their awareness on
who can serve to protect their welfare better.
"The Indian support for the opposition, in general, has
declined," he told reporters after attending the Maha Mariamman Temple's
Ponggal festival in the Batu Caves vicinity.
Palanivel noted that Najib's various transformation
initiatives had served to win back the support of Indians.
The MIC president wished all Indians and Hindus a very Happy
Ponggal and to remain united to achieve great success in the 13th General
Election.
