Najib Gives Nod To Building Of Coastal Road From Tuaran To Kudat

October 14, 2012 18:06 PM

KUDAT, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- The government agreed in principle to build a coastal road linking Tuaran, Kota Marudu and Kudat, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said the coastal road must be built to spur economic growth along its route and help boost the economy of the local people in the three areas.

"I am led to understand, the coastal road through Tuaran, Kota Marudu and Kudat must be implemented because when there is a wide coastal road available, many areas can be opened up to boost economic growth.

"I want to find out the allocation needed for the project. I will make an official announcement, when I have determined the allocation. But, believe me, it will be implemented by the Barisan Nasional government (BN)," he said when attending the Promises Fulfilled Tour at the Kudat Sports Complex, here, Sunday.

Najib also said, in principle, he agreed that a Customs, Immigration and Quarantine centre (CIG) be set up in Kudat, seeing the position of the district which bordered Palawan Island, in southern Philippines and a northern entry point into Sabah.

He said the requirement was also in line with the decision of the Philippines Government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) to sign a peace treaty to end their 40-year conflict, to be witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

"When southern Phillipines is peaceful, they can carry out development and less people will enter Sabah illegally and the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asia Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) will be more progressive. Commerce can be boosted and investments be increased in the area," he said.

According to Najib a detailed study would be carried out on all the requirements on the setting up of the CIQ and the allocation for its construction would be announced when the time came.

Najib also said the 1Malaysia People's Housing (PR1MA) entity would cooperate with the government of Sabah to decide on the location of schemes for affordable homes statewide.

Further to this, Najib said PERMATA Negara centres (special education centres for gifted children) would also be set up in every parliamentary area in Sabah via state government and federal government allocations.
