Number Of Flood Evacuees In East Coast Now Almost 11,000 People


KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 29 (Bernama) -- The flood situation in the east coast states of Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang has worsened with more than 10,800 people evacuated to flood relief centres Tuesday evening as compared to over 6,000 victims in the morning.

In Terengganu, 5,297 victims are now housed in shelters compared to 2,594 in the morning while in the Kelantan, the number rose to 3,218 people as compared to 1,963 people earlier, according the the official websites of their respective state governments.

Meanwhile, according to the National Security Council's flood portal, 2,376 people had been evacuated from their homes in Pahang as compared to 1,743 in the morning while the number of evacuees in Johor remains at 16 people.

In TERENGGANU, the number of flood victims in Hulu Terengganu increased to 1,052 people Tuesday evening while Kuala Terengganu saw an increase of 91 flood victims bringing the total thus far to 808.

In Besut the number flood victims now stands at 1,096, followed by Dungun (744), Setiu (717), Kemaman (611) and Marang (269).

Flood relief centres in operation in Terengganu as as follows: Besut (16), Dungun (12), Hulu Terengganu (16), Kemaman (13), Kuala Terengganu (eight), Marang (10) and Setiu (18).

In KELANTAN, Pasir Mas is having the highest number of evacuees at 2,049, followed by Kuala Krai (355), Kota Baharu (264), Tanah Merah (217), Pasir Puteh (245), Machang (47) and Tumpat (41).

In PAHANG, 2,152 victims were evacuated in Kuantan, Pekan (167) and Rompin (57).

The Tengku Mahkota Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah who visited flood evacuees sheltered at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sinar Mutiara in Pekan today said he hoped flood victims would be patient in facing the flood disaster on the state.
