12 Year-Old Girl Wins United Nations Art Competition


KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 18 (Bernama) - A 12-year-old girl makes the nation proud for being among the top winners in the United Nations' (UN) Art for Peace 2012 competition.

Mok Yan Ling from Petaling Jaya, was selected as the winner for the nine to 12 years old category. A total of 12 young artists were also announced as the winners in various categories.

Her caption for the masterpiece have captured the heart of 140 jurors from 40 countries.

She wrote: "I dream of a world with no fighting, where everyone is determined to make it a better place for future generations.

"The doves of peace will overcome all greed and set us free from nuclear threats forever".

Mok's original artwork was presented to Malaysia's permanent representative to UN Datuk Hussein Haniff by the UN High Representative of Disarmament Affairs Ms Angela Kane at the United Nations headquarters in New York, Tuesday.
