MARANG, Dec 29 (Bernama) -- PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul
Hadi Awang said Saturday he is prepared to explain the "Amanat Haji
Hadi" (Haji Hadi's Message) of 1981 if he is given the opportunity to do
so live over a local television station.
He said he would explain everything associated with his
message, which had branded Umno members and supporters as infidels, so that the
people could make their evaluation.
He was also prepared to provide a written explanation of his
stand on the message delivered more than 30 years ago, he told reporters after
officiating at the appointment of workers for the 13th general election at
Dewan Tok Guru in Rusila, near here.
The "Amanat Haji Hadi" had drawn objections from
various quarters, including former PAS members, who called on Abdul Hadi to
withdraw it for the sake of the unity of the Malays and Muslims.
Abdul Hadi dismissed claims that he had remained silent
because he was afraid, but said he would only state his stand of whether to
defend or withdraw the message if he was allowed to go on air.
